Pahang-Selangor Raw Water Supply Scheme Costs Less Than Alleged

PUTRAJAYA – The cost of the Pahang-Selangor Raw Water Supply Scheme, which includes the Langat 2 Water Treatment Plant project is estimated at RM6.225 billion and not RM8.56 billion as alleged by the opposition, said Energy, Green Technology and Water minister Peter Chin Fah Kui.

He said the project included the construction of a tunnel and intake point from Pahang to Sungai Langat at RM2.481 billion, which was half completed.

The Langat 2 project, estimated at RM3.744 billion, would be opened for tender in a month's time, he added.

"The cost of the Pahang-Selangor Raw Water Supply Scheme is actually much lower than what the opposition is claiming. They should not confuse the public with inaccurate information and figures," he told reporters after a gathering with the ministry and agencies' staff here on Tuesday.

He also rectified Selangor Menteri Besar, Abdul Khalid Ibrahim's claim that the 34 water treatment plants in Selangor were capable of producing up to 4,809 million litres a day.

"All the plants were designed to produce a maximum of 4,581 litres a day. Production beyond their capacity would only cause them damage," he said.
