Husband slashed to death, wife hurt in Cheras attack

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 6 — A man armed with two machetes hacked a Vietnamese immigrant worker to death and seriously injured his wife in a frenzied attack at the couple’s rented two-storey house in Bandar Mahkota Cheras here yesterday.

The assailant, believed to be a compatriot and housemate, had earlier rushed into the house in Jalan Dayang 52/8 and attacked the woman in the living room, slashing her four times on the head.

He then rushed into the master-bedroom where he confronted her husband before striking him on the head repeatedly.

He also stabbed the man on the neck, chest and shoulder before fleeing from the house in the incident about 6.30pm.

A police team found a blood-stained machete in a toilet at the house and another in its sheath, in the master-bedroom.

Kajang police chief ACP Abdul Rashid Abdul Wahab said the body of the Vietnamese man, who has not been identified, was sent to the Kajang Hospital He said the victim’s wife was warded at the hospital in a serious condition.

“We believe the motive of the attack is revenge and are in the midst of tracking down the assailant,” he added.

Abdul Rashid said, as the police found several passports at the house, the identities of the couple could not be determined as yet.

He said initial investigations revealed that a local man had rented the house to the Vietnamese couple and the deceased’s two brothers, about a month ago. — Bernama
